SNIP-ITS SUPPORTS COOKIES FOR KIDS’ CANCER

--Children’s Hair Salon Hosts Fundraiser as Part of Childhood Cancer Awareness Month--

Minneapolis, MN (Sept. 12, 2012)  – Snip-its, (www.snipits.com), one of the country’s fastest-growing chains of children’s hair salons, is implementing fundraisers in salons across the nation in September as part of Childhood Cancer Awareness Month. The fundraisers will benefit Cookies for Kids’ Cancer (www.cookiesforkidscancer.org), a national non-profit organization that funds major pediatric cancer research projects – in $100,000 grants – for five of the top pediatric cancer research centers in the country. The Snip-its Corporation is aiming to raise $100,000 in September, allowing the company to fully fund a pediatric cancer research grant.

Pediatric cancer is the #1 cause of death by disease in children in the U.S. A large issue is that many potential treatments for pediatric cancer never make it to the clinic to be tested and produced due to the lack of federal funding. Cookies for Kids’ Cancer works with top pediatric cancer research hospitals in the country – St. Jude’s Children’s Research Hospital, Texas Children’s Hospital, Dana-Farber Cancer Institute, Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center, and the Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia – to identify and fund promising research for new therapies to fight pediatric cancer. Since 2008, Cookies for Kids’ Cancer has raised more than $5 million, funding more than two dozen projects.

Cookies for Kids’ Cancer was founded in 2008 by Gretchen and Larry Witt after their son, Liam, was diagnosed with Neuroblastoma. Liam passed away in 2011 at age 6.

Snip-its customers are encouraged to stop by their local salons during the month of September to make a donation and help Snip-its in its efforts to help support much-needed funding for pediatric cancer. Each customer who donates will receive a paper cookie to place in the salon. Salon locations are listed here: http://www.snipits.com/locations. Donations also will be accepted online at http://cookiesforkidscancer.kintera.org/snipits.

First launched in 1995 by founder Joanna Meiseles, Snip-its has since been revolutionizing the hair care industry by creating a branded entertainment concept designed to untangle the hair-care challenges of children. Currently, Snip-its has more than 65 locations in 26 U.S. states.

“Partnering with Cookies for Kids’ Cancer gives Snip-its the opportunity to combine two things that we are passionate about – kids and supporting the communities we live and work in,” said Meiseles. “We are proud to support such a worthwhile organization like Cookies for Kids’ Cancer while giving back to the many families in need they benefit.”

About Cookies for Kids’ Cancer

Cookies for Kids’ Cancer was founded by Gretchen and Larry Witt, who were inspired by their son Liam’s fight against cancer. Tragically, Liam came to the end of his courageous battle with cancer in 2011. Today pediatric cancer remains the number one disease killer of children in the United States, due in large part to a lack of funding for research into new and improved therapies. Through the concept of local bake sales and online cookie sales, Cookies for Kids’ Cancer inspires individuals, organizations, and businesses to join in the fight against pediatric cancer by raising the funds and awareness necessary to change the face of pediatric cancer and provide more families with the hope they deserve. Cookies for Kids’ Cancer provides funding in the form of $100,000 grants to the top five pediatric cancer centers in the country including Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center, St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia, Texas Children’s Cancer Center and Dana Farber Cancer Center.
